    Procurement Practices

    WHEREAS it is requested that at each Council meeting, a report be submitted on one (1) Tender report showing Council what the comparative impact of a Triple Bottom Line recommendation would be; and

    WHEREAS This comparison could be in the form of a footnote or parenthesis or another purchasing practice alternative recommendation; and

    WHEREAS This practice would enable all Members of Council to get an education on the effect of Triple Bottom Line together.

    (a) That Council authorizes civil marriage solemnization services to be provided within the City of Cornwall and outside of its boundaries, in accordance to Ontario Regulation 285/04 and the Marriage Act R.S.O. 1990, Chapter M3 for the Province of Ontario.

    (b) That Council authorize a new Rehearsal Fee in the amount $30.00 and a new Witness Fee in the amount $30.00.

    1 International Day for the Elimination of Homophobia

    WHEREAS May 17 is the International Day for the Elimination of Homophobia; and .

    WHEREAS the Council of The Corporation of the City of Cornwall have been very supportive of the queer community in the past, as they work to achieve equality; and

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the Council of The Corporation of the City of Cornwall declare May 17, 2009 as the International Day against homophobia in Cornwall ; and


    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, since there will not be a Pride Festival in Cornwall this summer, that the Rainbow flag be flown on the Justice Building flag staff on May 17th.

    REPORTS FROM AD HOC COMMITTEES OF COUNCIL

    Councillor Bernadette Clement invited members of the Community to participate in the opening of the Farmer's Market located at the George Assaly Lane, beginning Saturday morning on May 16, 2009.

    Councillor Syd Gardiner congratulated the Mayor and Deputy Clerk on the recent success of OSUM Conference hosted by the City of Cornwall.


    NOTICES OF MOTION

    1. Mohawk Council of Akwesasne

    WHEREAS the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the community of Akwesasne are opposed to the arming of Canadian Border Service Agency officers; and

    WHEREAS they have some deep concerns with this issue and are trying to have these concerns addressed by the Federal Government.

    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Cornwall support the position of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and their community; and

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City's "Cornwall-Akwesasne Liaison Committee" personally deliver this message.
